RELATIVES, RITES and ROUTES Day 23 ( Final Day ) October 1, 2009 Waterton National Park, Alberta

Well today was a first.

We took in Waterton Village today and then drove the two roads that are in the park. The first was called the Akamina Parkway which is 16 kilometers long and runs out to Cameron Lake. The continental divide parallels the roadway and the boundaries of Alberta, British Columbia and Montana converge at Cameron Lake. Also on the drive we came to the spot where the first oil well was drilled in Canada.

The drive was quite picturesque and the day was clear. Windy and cold, but clear. It made for good picture taking.

The second drive was on Red Rock Parkway which was 15 kilometers long. It meanders over rolling prairie through Blakiston Valley and best illustrates “where the mountains meet the prairies”. Mount Blakiston was also visible, it is the parks highest mountain at 9645 ft.

This drive was also very picturesque but you will have to take my word for it. I forgot to put the card back in the camera and you know what happens when you do that. No Pictures. To say I was disappointed would be an under statement.

Kathy took three pictures with the other camera.

Tomorrow we are leaving Waterton National Park and within a few short miles we will covering the same ground that we travelled on the way up.  Therefore it is the right to time to conclude this chapter in our travels.  Relatives, Rites and Routes was a good chapter.  We got to spend some valuable and fun time with relatives on both sides.  We were honored and priviledged to witness the wedding ceremony of Mike and Jolene.  We also travelled over a lot of new and forgotten routes over this time.

So tomorrow we will commence with our new Chapter in our travels and this one is called "Texas in time for Turkey"  We are invited to Thanksgiving Dinner at Eddie and Anna's in Arlington and we would like to be able to join them.  However we still have a lot of things to do, places to go and people to see.  It will be close.
