GETTING TO GRAPEVINE May 7,8, & 9, 2010

We left Tuscon at our usual early time ( 11 AM ) and headed east on Hwy 10 through the balance of southern Arizona and the Sonoran Desert and of course the Saguaro Cactus.

You can see the foothills from the highway for most of the way through southern Arizona and the Sonoran Desert albeit they are in the distance.

As we neared New Mexico we came travelled through and past huge Pecan Farms.  You will find the both states produce a large amount of pecans.

We left Arizona and entered New Mexico however we only travelled half way across the state before we dropped down into Texas.  The terrain did not change much as there was also Pecan Groves, Scrub Land with the foothills in the distance and of course just prior to entering Texas at El Paso we came upon the stock yards.

You do not get a true picture of New Mexico only travelling along Hwy 10 as the northern part also adds much and is quite different.  In fact the only reason the stock yards are where they are is their proximity to El Paso, Texas.  I could live in New Mexico.

The terrain when entering Texas is not much different from New Mexico with the foothills and scrub land but as you continue to head east you it starts to flatten out.  Now what you see is oil pumpers for the oil wells, cattle and cotten fields.  As we got closer to Dallas it got a lot greener with more rolling hills, small but hills.

You cannot see any oil wells from the highway, these are on display at the petroleum museum in Odessa.

These cotton fields are just about ready for planting.

We stayed Thursday night in Van Horn, Texas and Friday night at the KOA in Arlington before heading up to The Vineyards Campground in Grapevine on Sunday. This is still our favorite park and of course as soon as we arrived our friends came to visit.
