THE ALASKAN ADVENTURE Day 18 June 3, 2009 Denali National Park

We didn't get off to a real early start today as we took the camper off the truck, we will be here another two nights and the driving is easier without the camper.

When we did get away the first stop was to take pictures of the different vistas in the 5 miles stretch before you hit Denali Canyon Road. You will see from the pictures just how beautiful it is and I will let them do the talking. In the first picture that is Kathy out on the ledge taking pictures.

Once we had enough pictures we decided to drive the park road again. The scenery was just as delightful even though the day was not as clear. It was quite a bit warmer at 70 degrees F but the sky was a little bit smokey as there are 37 active forest fires in the state of Alaska. There are not any near the park. We did take a couple of more pictures.

When we reached the turnaround point on the road we noticed that there were 2 or 3 professional wildlife photographers set up. Despite being very shy I finally got up the nerve to ask them what was going on. They informed me that the little fellow shown below had been abandoned by his mother and was calling for her to come and get him. She left him when she and her other calf crossed the river to avoid a bear that was in the area. How the bear missed the little guy is anyones guess but I would be very surprised if he lasted the night. The park does not interfer with the animal population whatsoever. Let nature take its course.
